    olddog's birthday hang

What a fantastic weekend with my great hammock family. hangNyak and I arrived around ten Friday morning with misting rain on the hike in and during setup. I wasn't able to hang from my usual 2 trees due to a hunter placing his tree stand there. Probably messed up his weekend hunt but... placing your stand in a primitive campsite in a multiuse forest. Others began trickling in Grinder, JEM and JimJ, zukiguy, emcee, MAD777, craigc, Big Country and ricktorfla with Great White completing the the Friday night group. Hung the community tarp just in time for the afternoon shower while waiting for the promised cooler temps to come. A great evening sitting around the fire with the usual banter about food, hammocks etc until midnight. Temps over night reached into the mid 40°s. Finally some perfect hammock weather! After breakfast Grinder, JEM and Jimj had to head back out. Leaving the remainder of the group to just laze around the camp, comparing rigs and napping. Gone Native and Mathew joined the group in the afternoon. Not much hiking this weekend due to the hunters in the woods plus we had one hunter express his displeasure during breakfast. emcee did manage to get in a short hike. Saturday evening spent with more fire festivities. Thank you zuki for providing all the firewood. Sunday morning was the usual last morning routine of coffee and packing up for the hike out. I would like to thank everyone for making this a special weekend. Photos shortly.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Just got home and had to post, even before my shower, to say what an idealic, perfect weekend. Olddog's birthday was perfectly timed with a cold front, bringing temperatures down from the upper 80's to mid 40's. That, and fun conversation with great friends, made the campfire welcome.

Every year has become like a family reunion on these trips. Always look forward to spending time in the woods with these great guys! Loaded up the gear and the dog, Friday morning and headed to Olddog's house. Picked him up and we arrived around 9:30am or so. The hike out was a bit drizzly at times, but enjoyable. We got set up and slowly, the rest of the gang started to trickle in. Friday night's 40's temps, were a welcome change from the Florida heat. As always there were stories to be told, laughing and just great company. It was a perfect weekend to enjoy the woods. Both nights, the coyotes were carrying on and made for some special hammock time. Can't wait for the next. Happy birthday, Olddog, my friend!! May you enjoy many, many more in the woods!

Another great hiking/hanging weekend. I left work around 5:30, and picked up Richtor at his place then we hit the road. After struggling through the friday evening traffic in Tampa and on I-4, we made pretty good time the rest of the way. We rolled in to the Lake Godwin parking area around 8:30 or so. We rucked up and hit the trail for the hike in by headlamp, Sorry again for the fast pace Richtor, the hiking poles really get me rolling. We walked into the camp site about 9:30 or so. Heard the Banter and saw the glow of the fire about a hundred meters out, knew that it was the right place. After greetings all around, we set off to some saved trees to get our rigs set up, thanks again HangnYak. Spent the rest of the night until about 12:30 shooting the breeze around the fire, and sippin some refreshments. Saturday was mostly lounging, and talking gear and technique. Another night of camp talk around the hiker TV, and enjoying the cool weather. The usual sunday morning, getting the blood out of the caffeine system, and breakfast. Afterwards everybody broke down and packed up to head out. Group photo taken and we hit the trail as a group. Enjoyed a cool mid morning breeze on the way out. Another good weekend getting away from the world for a short time. Happy Birthday OldDog!!! May you celebrate many more, and let us share it with you.

    Cheers
