Hammock Stand: Surplus Military Antenna Masts 4' sections

I just posted printable 3d files to Thingiverse to create functional endcaps for the separation section.

The STL also works via CNC.

Hope someone finds them as useful as I have.

I used three of these poles as the 12 foot ridge line section, along with wooden tripods, to see if this is a good solution for hammocking in state parks where the rangers are not thrilled with hammocks suspended from trees. The one flaw I found was that the rope that hangs from the tripod would slip on the metal and slide down the pole. This caused a lowering of the hammock and a possible pulling down of the tripods. You do need something at the end to keep this sliding from happening. I was thinking of carving out a block of wood to put in the ends of the pole to tie the rope from the tripod and the whoopies from the hammock to, to keep the ropes from slipping. I like this idea, and will have to try it next time I take the rig out.

There might be a way to put a bump on each pole to stop lines from sliding down poles. Maybe you can some use some sort of epoxy glued to poles, that will make a semi-permanent bump.

Or maybe an icicle hitch will prevent sliding down poles.

I put a 6 inch piece of 26" inner tube on the ends of my ridge pole to stop slippage of the straps and a bolt through as a last resort stopper but I haven't needed it yet.
I used a continuous whoopie loop to attach the ridge pole to the stands and let it hang down on my turtle style aluminum poles.

The continuous loop rests on the attachment point of the three poles where they come together. The amsteel is 7/64 and works great.
