Here's some additional pics. These were obviously not under tension - just lying on my desk. They don't look nearly as bad, it just seems the bury is very loose at the end.

Would there be any benefit to moving the exit point of the bury closer to the fixed end, putting less stress on the frayed part?

Thats completely normal. I wouldn't worry one bit.
