    Need some help with suspension

OK, you guys have my interest with all this whoopie sling stuff and like Shug says, it's too cool a name not to use it. I am going to replace the HH suspension lines with six foot whoopie slings. I am using 1 inch polyester webbing with ring buckles now and I need to know if I can use a marlin spike hitch in the polyester webbing and attach the whoopie sling to it. I like the idea of the webbing to be used on different diameter trees and to allow for different distances between trees. Never really been too keen on tree huggers but I might have to adjust my thinking. BTW, I can't believe how far this forum has come and how many people are converting. Thanks to all for sharing info.

Absolutely you can. Quite a few people using Whoopie Slings use polyester webbing huggers.

I converted to Whoopie Slings after reading the posts and watching the videos with great interest. I got tired a long time ago tying the figure-eight lashing on my HH because it was so difficult to adjust. My "upgrade path" included going to carabiners and a slippery larks head and now finally to lightweight 7/64 Amsteel Blue Whoopie Slings and a toggle (see my hammock camping illustration).

I use the webbing straps around the tree and use the toggle through the eye (either one or both, depending on how I wrap the webbing around the tree). I've never used the hitch in the webbing, preferring to only adjust the Whoopie sling once the webbing is set.

The photos show my cut-in-half aluminum stake/toggle running through one or two of the webbing loops.

Thanks for the info. Well, I went ahead and done it!!! Whoopie slings are really cool. A big thanks to Grizz with his primer on hammock suspensions. He is an outstanding instructor and a true asset to this forum. Thanks again.

how easy is it to replace the ropes on a hennesy hammock and replace them with amsteel for whoopie slings??

i currently have a blackbird set up with straps and 'biners but i want to get a hennesy for my little cousin and he sucks at tying knots so i figured if this would be the easiest way to get him set up...
