Thanks for the trip report I love the canoe tripping combination. Add the night and morning views and wildlife sightings
Awesome, thanks for sharing the trip.
Wow. Great pics. Could you comment on that board with holes cut in it. It looks like part of a portage yoke pad system, but how does it work? Also interested in the no-sew paddle mod to your tarp.
The board with holes is a portage yoke. The pads are foam out of a sofa cushion covered with silnylon. That was too soft and slick so I put a ¼ inch closed cell strip over top. It is held to the canoe by foam block for putting a canoe on top of a car. They are split down the middle and glued to the board with the place where the gunnel would go if using them for car topping turned out and spaced so they are a press fit between the gunnels of the canoe. To install I set the groove on the far side gunnel and pull out on the near gunnel while pushing down on the yoke and it snaps into place. The holes are just to lighten it up. I also use it to prop the canoe up on it side when using the canoe to block wind. Like in this report on “Day9 63/20/15” https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...18#post1519118
The no sow Paddle mod was a little bit of a joke. After all the work people did including me to get a pole mod to open up out tarps and get more space that day I was trying to do a quick prop up the tarp so I could get gear under before the rain hit. I shoved the paddle over the continuous ridge line and it worked well. That was the first time I used the paddle that way but not the last. I also carry poles for a pole mod but usually use them to prop up one side
