I've been using these for a while now. I like the 7" length: http://www.amazon.com/Metallic-Alumi.../dp/B00P2SDZ2A

But I sometimes find myself cutting my own stake to hold in sandy soil. Sometimes it's just so soft that no stake will do. Other times in thick clay, you could get away with just about anything.

The mini's are perfect for clayey or silty soils, or even sandy loams. Longer stakes are better in thick organic forest litter, muck, clean sand, river gravel, and snow.

Anyone experienced with these stakes? How do they compare to the groundhogs?
I haven't seen these, but I bought some unbranded similar looking Y-stakes from the German equivalent of REI. On the pictures they looked similar. But in reality, they were thinner and shorter, and didn't look quite as robust as MSR.

From the two you listed, Dutch's look like they would come close to MSR. At least the specs are similar. It would be interesting to abuse both and see if they hold up equally well. So far, I have been pretty impressed with the Groundhogs. I have pounded them with jagged rocks many times - sometimes into terrible ground. They still don't show a lot of wear after 5 years. I have never had stakes that performed that well.
