Fortunately for me I've been taking the kids camping since they were infants and my sons been backpacking since he was 2 1/2 years old. We also live on a few acres in the middle of farm country so the outdoors is all they know...its second nature to them. We dont have cable/satellite TV, they dont play video games, they dont have cell phones...all unusual for their age I guess, but Im trying to raise them to appreciate nature.

My daughter is 12 and just got a cell phone this Christmas. I held out as long as I could, wanting to be sure she had a good grasp on human dialog and connection, before letting her dive into the digital world. She has a bad nut allergy so as she starts to venture out farther in life, the phone was, to me, a safety factor. Otherwise, I would have held out longer...

I had the Lemon Squeezer to myself. While I was out, I saw two tents, stealth pitched about a quarter mile from the squeezer, and one other couple out for a hike. It was awesome. While the squeezer is cool, it's over before it began..

No its not far from the AT though. Closest shelter on the AT to Bald Rocks is the Fingerboard Shelter. Its basically the same type of stone shelter with a fireplace as this. The shelter is pretty covered with graffiti inside, but the surrounding area for camping is very nice.
