I have trail maintenance on the Goodwater this weekend and next, so I can't make it.

However, if anyone would like to get a little hang time in and help with some trail maintenance you can meet us at Camp Tejas in Georgetown. We will hang there Friday, meet up with the trail maintenance guys on Sat, and push on to Sawyer Sat, and leave by the remote trailhead (by Cedar Hollow) Sunday. It's a relay, not a circuit.

No need to bring any tools, what we need will be supplied. But if you have a favorite tool by all means bring it (loppers, bow saw etc).

Thanks for the invite Rat. Since this is just a quick sub24 recon for me, I am checking out State Park/s, traveling light, and not staying long. Otherwise, since my blades are now sharp, I think my son and I would love to pitch in on the trail maintenance some time. Hopefully others can join you.

I'm new to hanging but I would like to tag along depending on the dates and temps. Nice to hang with some experienced hangers and learn.

    Recon report

Alan + son; LostCause, Gracie and canine space heaters; Texas longhorn and I went on a recon to Lake Livingston State Park last Fri/Sat and learned a lot.

First it was a nice place with plenty of trees and excellent plumbing facilities.

It takes a google map and/or gps to find it as the signs are sparse. The water only sites is a Boy Scout haven so we went to the water + electric and had the place pretty much to ourselves. (It may be that snow and temps dropping to low 20's had something to do with that.)

The sunset on the lake was really nice but once it got dark enough, we could see lots of lights from the houses on the opposite shore. Although we had plenty of trees, the ground was not well drained and mucho sogginess. A major trail was right behind our site as well.

Although there were no "Mt Doom" power plant noises all night long, we did hear cars and trains.

All in all it was nice place but the consensus was that it was a bit too civilized for our personal tastes but could be a possibility for a car camp group hammock hang. I would call it an option to have on the list, but not at the top.

... forgot to mention. Not only was this a campsite recon, it was a whoopie sling test.

Thanks to Hogn8r's teaching and Captn's coaching I stayed comfortably airborne all night.
