OK Uncle MJM ... Your on.
When and where?
Hard to beat Fairfield for a central location was a comment I heard from a lot of people.

This is the official thread for planning the next Texas hang? Count me in!
I agree. Fairfield was awesome and the sunsets across the water were spectacular.
When?
How about late December or between Christmas and New Year's? (Maybe even a New Year's eve hang to compliment the one on Springer. "Hang in the new year coast to coast." Just need to get some folks further west to jump on this.) Or something shortly after deer season ends in January?
Deer season ends January 17 for most of the state - how about the last weekend in January?
Or, to follow the pattern and give another option, how about the last weekend in February?
Where?
This depends on the answer to the question, do we backpack or car camp?
... or both with a base camp for those who prefer not to hike and a simple hike for those who do.
Possiblities that come to mind are
Lost Maples SNA for the backpackers. Not much in the way of hanging options for the car camp area.
Hill Country SNA - Rat's description of the Hermit Shack area sounded great. Not sure about the car camp prospects. I think I hear "recon trip" in the future.
Stubblefield Lake Campground - options for both
Fairfield Lake State Park - options for both - I agree that Fairfield worked well. Springfield loop closes during "winter months" so depending on the time that needs to be considered.
Let's get a bunch of ideas flowing then we can narrow it down.
I'm in! though I like trying out and seeing new places ...... I'll have to do a bit of research as well .... and I will hopefully have a bunch of my new mods done and some sort of UQ system in place. maybe I can drag along someone new I can "turn" as well?
Martin Dies Jr.State Park,,,,in Jasper, has a ton of trees, fishing available, the bathrooms are CLEAN,,,
Lake Livingston State Park,,,, on the southern end of Lake Livingston,,,, tons of trees there also,,,,,I have never done the hiking thing,,, but have stayed at both places,,, and both are nice.....
Browder Marina and Campground (privately owned) on Lake Livingston on the dam end, has a camp ground right on the Trinity River at the dam.
OR
Stublefield AFTER HUNTING SEASON,,,an overnight river bank trip. There are many many spots via water to set up and camp. I have 2 extra canoes, one tandem and one solo , paddles and life jackets and I would be more than happy to let some one use them. It would be a flat water paddle, little to no current for new paddlers.
SWPS in the Woodlands rents both canoes and kayaks,,,,,,just throwing that out there.
I am available for some scouting trips if anyone wants to go....

Anyone interested in a come and go as you please monthly hang?
This way we can hit all of the various spots.
I am in,,,, I will post up when I go, it is always an open invitation.
Texas Longhorns and I are going on a sub24 recon this weekend, (12/4-5), and welcoming any company that would like to come along.
The plan is to leave College Station about 3:30 Friday afternoon and head east. Not sure where to but it will be a state park most likely.
We'll pack light, spend the night, and if there are other areas nearby scope them out as well then high tail it home to be back in Aggieland by 3:00.
Alan, Counselor, Randy, Lost Cause... any other south Texas folks want to join in we would love to have you along.
