I'm getting prepared to do some colder hammocking as well. I have an HG incubator 20 on the way, with a 20 degree Kelty Cosmic down sleeping bag for a TQ. I also have a 2QZQ UQP on the way. Would it make sense to put a pad of reflectix somewhere in the mix? i.e., between the hammock and UQ, between the UQ and UQP, or between me and the hammock?

This sound like layering the perfect sandwich, lol. See I like the meat on the bottom just above the lower piece of bread, then I like to put the cheese right on top of the meat. Next, we'll add some lettuce and whatever garden veggies you prefer, and then I like to put any condiments on top of the veggies before the top piece of bread goes on.

Could you link that model of hammock cover, or anything similar? Thanks

Costco quilts and 20 degree incubators

I had good luck into the teens with my 20 incubator and a costo quilt sandwiched in between the hammock and the UQ. For a supplementary top quilt the costco quilts suck, though. They're too light and slick and mine ended up smooshed in the the bottom of my burrow footbox or in the bottom of my sock.

I know this is probably on here a million times, but, if I add a 1/8 ccf pad from GG and use my 20 UQ incubator, am I defeating the warmth from getting to the down? Creating condensation problems, etc? I don't mind sleeping on a pad and using just one UQ, would rather do that that fiddle with 2 UQs.

This is good to hear, as this is my intended approach with my costco quilt. I've already modified into a UQ, but might add pleating to it to shape it better. hung as a true UQ between the BB and HG20, I expect good results. I recently purchased an argon sock from dutch, which serves to create a micro climate and UQP, this should assist in my venture as well.
Nature restores my sanity. Seeking to get out more.

There was actually a couple out with me last weekend who had taken costco quilts, doubled them up, and sewn underquilts with channels and shock cord and topquilts with foot boxes using a total of 4 quilts for a set. They really did a nice job. I'll try to get pics when I see them next in a few weeks. They report sleeping pretty well into the teens.

I recently got an argon sock from Dutch, too. It hasn't been the quilt breeze cure all that I was thinking it would be, but it does bump warmth a bit, keeps my TQ from falling on the ground, and makes for a nice lazy slug. UQP might be in my future.

I wish there was a way to accurately test with/without an UQP. I just sold mine after never using it for years. I've been down to 3° with a 20° Incubator. And -5F with my 0° Incubator. For $35 I guess it's good peace of mind, but since I never needed it all this time I figured it was 7oz of unnecessary weight and fuss.
