My current setup has some shock cord tied to the rings on the door flaps with a micro biner on the loose end which I clip up to the other door line like everyone seems to do in one way or another. I have some extra length right now to allow me to see how I want to tie it when I shut the doors down. You can see a little slack in some of the pictures. I stow the doors inside the tarp too so I can close them at night if bad weather rolls in without going out in the 'elements'. Lol. When I am ready to close the doors, I can clip the biner to my corner tie down line or ring which does ok based on the slope angle of the tarp and length of cord you use. A cord lock to adjust length quickly would be the best thing to use to solve the problem of too much slack or you can clip it to another stake you set up in advance although it would be difficult to find at night. I included pics of my buddy's CF tarp setup too as it shows more clarity as we improve on this setup. I definitely recommend shock cord over regular cord as you can keep the doors closed and still enter/exit without opening a flap up which could be bad in driving rain or wind. Think of it like a screen door that self closes. Search YT for superfly setup vids and you'll see what I mean.

    Off the AT, doors open:

Backyard testing after learning some more about setup. Doesn't show the details though.

Hello mate, in the first photo it looks like you have two lines running from your hiking pole. Why is that? Just curious.

I have a shockcord loop with a small split ring and DIY worm on it that is fixed to the tarp's corner ring. The yellow line is tied to the stake and secured around the worm. The pole tip is slipped right in the loop (which, in hindsight, isn't very secure). For silnylon tarps, having some kind of line tensioner is best as that material seems to give a little bit after deployment and it helps to keep the tarp taut. I tried other ways but this one works best for me. Are those the two lines that you are talking about?

Oh, my bad. The stems of that plant in the lower left corner looked like a yellow zingit tieout at first glance. And I couldn't figure out what gargantuan forces would warrant a *second* guyline on a hiking pole, especially while in porch mode.

Off to get mi eyes checked.

I use the clips, with a toggle to adjust the length of the shock cord.

By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

That's what I want to add to my setup. Do the cord locks have good holding power or do you give it a half hitch once length is set for extra security?

They do. I consider this the @Mr.Clean method, cause that's how I learned it. Doors have held up through winds, storms, and sunny afternoons tied backed and staked like that.

No half hitch, I've never had an issue with slipping.

I like that method. But I use hooks and loops at the end so I can clip the doors to other line or loop around a stake, branch, etc. for all kinds of crazy setups.
