First hang, a lesson learnt, second hang

I am a greedy pig, so I bought too large, a HH Safari deluxe.

My first hang was at the Arve River rest area on the road to Tahune Air Walk in Southern Tasmania, 20th of November.

A change in the evening dropped the temp to about 10 degrees C, had a good down bag but no insulation under me.
    Very comfy, but too cold.

So did some research (bloody idiot, better late than never I guess) and realized I should have gone smaller, its only money, Keynes was right, spend and prosper, so I got a Explorer Deluxe Asym with a hex tarp and super shelter.

Next time away was up to Interlaken in the central highlands at about 850 meters, 4th of December.

    Putting on the snake skins.

Lots of choice of trees to hang from.

A comfortable and warm night was had, though I did suffer scorn and derision from my ground dwelling mates.

What a great first post! Welcome to Hammock Forums Andy! Or, I should say, welcome to the posting side of HF..LOL. I bet you DID get cold that first night.

Those are some great pics. I especially like the one with the newer hammock alone with trees all around it ("Lots of choices of trees to hang from")

Glad you got your back side insulation situated. So, how many of your buddies have you begun to convert?

Great pics. Yep. When the hammock is new, we never think about the under insulation until that first night out when the temps drop. Glad you got it figured out. Sure they laugh now, but when you're loudly sawing logs through the night and they are on the ground rolling back and forth groaning, you'll have the last laugh!

Wow what a perfect place for hammocks. That sucker is huge ... first time I've seen that model in action so to speak. BUT wow is it roomy, Gott a love that! Especially in warmer weather.

Thanks for sharing online with us and welcome on board! Great pictures!

Hey Andy; great first post and pics. I also like that pic in the trees and that campsite is flat. Now you have allot of fun ahead of you.

And when you get up in the morning, and don't have to crawl through mud, and moan and groan to get the day started; then they'll notice...

    +1 on the "welcome!"

And now you've got a couple hammocks and two different tarps? Now you get to enter the addictive world called "tweaking my setup", with Dutch clips, whoopie slings, Amsteel, and all sorts of other goodies. You are in for a treat, it will make those gorgeous woodlands even more fun!
