What would you recommend? I had heard that using Momentum can add a few degrees of warmth over 1.1oz nylon, and is just a hair lighter. I don't yet know enough about all the different types of shell fabrics, any suggestions would be most helpful, though I don't want to hijack this thread.

I wouldn't do it just for the extra cost. It is a nice fabric but very expensive. For the inner layer of an UQ, I would just use 1.1 ripstop.

In case any one is wondering, I have all of the orders printed, saved in an email folder, and recorded in my PayPal account. I have not responded to anyone directly. I'll send PayPal invoices for the shipping costs after your order is shipped.

It's interesting to read about the ideas everyone has for putting this stuff to use. I want to use it to extend the range of any pad, UQ or TQ, at a low cost. I plan to make a nested synthetic UQ for my daughter, similar to the MacKAQ. (Which I miss!)

How much down and what size baffles would you need to reach a 0*F rating, I wonder?
That's a different way of looking at what I plan to do. I want to use the Insultex as a range extender, not necessarily as a permanent part of the quilt.

You could answer the question, "How much...?" empirically by making three Insultex rectangles and testing the effect of adding one, two or three of them to an existing down quilt.

My understanding of Momentum is that it starts with the same 1.1 ripstop as regular DWR nylon ripstop, but that the DWR treatment is "special" and more durable. The durability is needed for groundlings.

In another thread in the past I asked people with 0.9 momentum to weigh and give the sq yard weights. I had 1.1 DWR from Ed Speer and the 0.9 Momentum came out to the same weight.

From that I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the extra moneyfor us - no weight savings and I don't need the "extra durability" for hammock use. Some people thought the Momentum was very soft and liked that aspect - the DWR I got from Ed Speer is also very soft and silky. So you decide what is important and pays your money.

Figure 2.5 yards for a single layer.

Figure 2.5 yards per single layer quilt.

If you want to make them double layer, double the yardage.

How low are you planning for temps??

Single layer in my i.d.i.gear poncho as a poncho works for me down to the 40s comfortably and 30s without any problem, but that was a very short test.

I have used with a cotton Tee shirt down to the lower 40s.

But then that was walking and working up plenty of internal heat.

Those who use the Arctic Armour (which has 3 layers) report being comfortable to single digits.

There is no real world testing done by anybody on these forums as yet. So it is all pretty much guess work and relying on the experiences of those using the Arctic Armour. Hopefully those experiences can be carried over without too much problem to hammock quilts using 1.1 DW as the shell instead of the coated, waterproof outer shell of the Arctic Armour.

I'm planning on 3 layers in my quilts when I get the 1.1 ripstop - still waiting on shipping of the ripstop.
