Climashield Top Quilt. What weight fabric?

Gang I am going to sew my first top quilt after reading all these threads. Is there an optimum weight fabric that works with synthetic better (as far as strength/durability)? I am buying from Ripstop by the roll and am bouncing between a 1.0/1.1 or 1.6.

    Thanks for opinions!

I've always used the calendared HyperD 1.0. I think some of the manufactures use some .6 stuff.
I'm just cautious with durability so I won't go any lighter than that.

I just got some of the 1.1 from there for an uq I am making. its nice fabric and so far works well. I can't speak to the longevity but making and feel of product seems spot on. BTW i also bought the cs apex from them too in 2.5 and 3.6. trying to get to around 20 or so may be 25.

btw I also purchased a new tq from wilderness logics and it is listed as .9 rn thats dwr. not sure if thats the same as the illume15 but that is some nice stuff.

Perfect! I was really eyeballing some of those colors in the HyperD 1.0.

for the inner shell, i used this stuff: http://diygearsupply.com/product/1-1...op-nylon-2nds/ the uncalendared stuff is super thin and very breathable.... and very cheap!

the the outter (top) shell, i used this stuff: http://ripstopbytheroll.com/collecti...op-nylon-white because i wanted to tie dye it so i needed white.

I believe the first stuff is the same as I have purchased from magna fabrics at .59 a yard. It is very soft. My sons hammock is made from this and I feel one of the most comfortable I have been in. It helps that its 66" wide.

You should make sure that the outer shell is calendared. That gives you a wind proof but breathable shell, so that your heat isnt sucked away by moving air.

I used .67 argon and could not be happier. It has been plenty durable. I expect it will last years. With climashield, even if it were to rip, it would not be a huge deal. It would still work until I could ge home and fix it.

Follow up question while I'm begging for opinions: what width do you prefer? Also, is a foot box really needed? My plan was to sew a channel at the end to make a draw cord foot box, but it seems all the TQs I have seen lately have proper foot boxes.

I've made mine about 48" but I like a wide quilt that I can tuck in around me. As for the footbox, most of the cottage manufacturers on here will do several types including a draw cord. Personally, I do a flat sewn footbox and it works for me.
