I don't think the square is silly, especially since you have experience pitching ground tarps. That's part of what I love about my 11x10 tarp.

I like my rectangle,mbecause it can be pitched with doors like a winter tarp (less roomy), or pitched with the corners folded up as a hex. It can also be used to pitch ground dwelling options.

Feels just like my Banshee 300 but made with just a square tarp, two walking poles (or one if you want) and a couple of guys.
At this rate my super light diy tarp is going to be comprible weight to my bigger tarps lol.
