Hello from the mountains in Arizona

Jeff here .. new to hanging .. been backpacking/camping for 40yrs, most of it on the ground .. a few years ago I bought cots and as comfortable as those are, they aren't portable .. only good for tailgate camping .. most of the time I'm bivouacking, tents were for sub-freezing or thunderstorms .. leaves, pine needles, sand and dirt have been my bed .. not to mention the 250,000 rocks of all sizes that popped up in the middle of the night right under my hip

Looking forward to the luxury of hammock camping (why didn't I start this sooner) no more getting up off the ground

Just bought #1, a Traveller XL .. after looking at all the different vendors and styles I figured I had to start somewhere

So here I go .. so much to read, watch and learn .. the trout won't know what's sneaking up on them this summer

Thanks for all the good posts full of info I'm doing my best to learn

Hello from the mountains in Arizona

Welcome to the forum, from Central Texas! You'll find a good many friendly folks here. I too share your lament. After about 40 years of camping, laying on the ground, so late in life I discovered hammock camping! I'll never sleep on the ground again!
No matter where you go...There you are..

Welcome from far West Texas! Glad you could join us in the trees, happy to have you. Lots of great hanging in Az and a great hanging community too. Keep an eye out for group hangs, usually at least a couple a year. I think your going to enjoy this new adventure.

Welcome! Good choice on the Traveler, was my first hammock as well. Haven't spent a lot of time in Clarkdale, but love Mingus Mtn area. Sure must be nice to have so many great hanging options close to you!

Welcome from Canada. Your going to enjoy the comfort and ease of a hammock. There is a learning curve but its worth it. Once you learn to set your hammock up the same all the time it will give you the same lay no matter what the terrain. Your at the right place.

This must be one of the most used lines with intros.

Glad you made it to the forums. There are a bunch of great folks here. Make a few group hangs if you can.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
