Video - above Skull Shoals and my first snow

Here's a very short video that (I hope) captures the way I experienced this weekend's weather. I'm never sure if I'm wrapping the link the right way when posting, so bear with me. Bad come to worse, I suppose cutting and pasting will work.

    Cheers.

I enjoyed your video Sidney thank you. Did you ever contact that officer that was checking you were OK? I thought that was pretty cool.

    Thanks for watching.

Yes, there is a bit more to that part of the story. The call you heard came at 1:00am. By the time I fumbled awake, all I saw was "restricted number" on my caller ID. I listened to the message but was puzzled about what to do. He didn't leave his cell number and he blocked my caller ID.

So I called the local sheriff's office at 1:30 in the morning. This being a rural county, they didn't answer but I did leave a voicemail saying who I was, why I was calling and asking that they pass along a message to the DNR Ranger that I was OK.

Apparently they didn't pass the message along.

When I walked out of the woods shortly before lunchtime on Saturday and called my wife to let her know I was out, she told me that the same DNR officer had just left my father's house where he was asking if my father thought he should get together a search party for me!

Luckily my father convinced him that I was probably fine and would be walking out soon. The Ranger had been checking on my car all night, certain that I was lost out in the snowy woods.

I guess it never occurred to the poor guy that someone would be out in the weather like that for FUN.

I'm grateful the DNR does care about us folks who run around in the woods, and I did try to contact him that night. But if you block caller ID and then don't tell me your cell number, it's gonna be tough for me to get in touch to ease your mind.

Yup ... the 2016 flurrypocolyps or the infamous dusting of the front yard. I didn't expect too much, even with all of the hype. Here in the Larwenceville / Lilburn section of the county, it was barely a dusting.

Glad that you were able to get out and enjoy the woods. Thanks for sharing your video.

Many thanks for the kind words. I had a great time testing my setup in bad weather. Just wanted to show that if someone as inexperienced as me can be safe and have fun in less than stellar conditions, anybody can do this stuff. We don't have to be experts with perfect weather to have fun in the woods.
