My failure was entirely on me. I was trying whoopies, because that's what seemed cool. Went to hang my WBBB and quickly realized I had left a tree strap on the floor of my basement. Luckily I had some amsteel that worked. Yes, I padded under the cord. First thing I did when I got home? Yep...went right back to my cinch straps. Always together...always there...and only a couple of ozs heavier.

DITTO, though I made my own so made it doubled, so it's actually twice as long as my fat waist.

Not that this is exactly hammock related, but I mentioned on another thread that I tend to carry an extra compression strap in my pack in case I need the replacement or webbing for something else. I broke a leather belt I was wearing a couple years ago while out on a backpacking trip, and the spare compression strap soon became my replacement belt for the weekend.

I've never had a suspension failure per-se, but I have "gone to ground" a few times. ALWAYS operator error, as In I screwed up.
There is a saying among us hangers: "There are 2 types of hammockers, ones who have fallen, & ones who will fall!
So, pay attention as to how your suspension is set up, take your time setting it up, hang from appropriate trees & never hang higher than you are willing to fall.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I always carry one extra dynaglide woopie. Figure if both break well at that point I better head home anyways. But I also inspect my suspension before and after every putting.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
