Clymit Static V (insulated) vs Exped Downmat Winterlite 9?

    Clymit Static V - $55. R-value 4.4 (good enough for subzero?). Wide
Exped Downmat Winterlite - $175 (ouch! but let's continue). R-value 7.0 (much better than 4.4). Lighter than Clymit, packs smaller (i hope). Tapered with leg section being narrower.

I'm a side sleeper if it matters.

So, which one I should choose for 4-season camping and occasional backacking?

Remember weight and pack size will be less of an issue if you are car camping or hauling a pulk.

No practical experience with either of the products so take it for what it is worth. I have slept warm (aprox -20*C) with a Downmat 9 DLX in my DD Frontline. The key is to underinflate (inflate to 50-75%) This takes some of the stiffness away and allows it to better conform to the hammocks shape. Apparently the lack of longitudinal baffles in the Klymit allows it to conform even better to the banana shape of the hammock.

And yeah, everyone is going to say 'Get an under quilt"

P.S. If you haven't checked it out, watch Shug's vid on hammocks and pad camping.

I agree with bodhran4me i have the static X insulated and underinflating is more comfortable i had it in my Hennessy and it conforms better around you...it does get you pretty warm for a pad ive used it in conjunction with a poncho liner down to about 30 and was comfortable but again like bodhran4me said as well as many many others will and I an underquilt is the best option for hammocking if you can aford to get one

So far it looks like no one is really excited about Exped Downmat...
And since Clymit Static V will do the job just fine, there's no reason to shell out extra $120 for a better product?

    Is that right?

PS I really liked both Shug's videos on the subject

I have the insulated Vluxe. I think it has the same R value of the regular size. I don't think I could get anywhere near being comfortable at 0*, that is, in a hammock. It may insulate better on the ground. I have not had much experience with mine yet but it looks like maybe the mid to upper 30's for me. But I may have had it overinflated. It was very comfortable but maybe less inflation somehow improves the R value.
