    DIY Ridgerunner Climashield underquilt

This is the first quilt I've made. I made it with ideas and tips I got from other posts here on the forums. I used 1.1 ripstop from Ripstopbytheroll and two lavers of 3.6 Apex XL Climashield. My total cost for materials was less than $60.00 including shipping. The outside layer is dark olive and the inside is charcoal gray. It's full length with cat cuts and tapered some at the foot end. Ended up weighing about 17oz. I'm hoping it will be good to about 20 degrees.

I traced the cat cut of the Ridgerunner to make a pattern and used it to cut my materials. I made the outside layer a couple inches wider and put in a couple darts at the end to keep from compressing the insulation to much. To sew it up I stacked the two fabric layers on top of the insulation with the outsides facing in, sewed most of the way around then turned right side out and closed the end. I also added tabs at the corners of the stack berfore sewing to attach the quilt to the hammock.

I thought it was a fairly easy project, I was able to finish it in an afternoon. I'd like to eventually tackle a down quilt but thought this would be a good practice piece and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

Looks great! I hope it keeps you toasty warm. 17oz is pretty darn good for that much apex!

Thanks. I was kinda surprised by the weight too, just wish it would pack a little smaller.

Looks like a fine quilt! With the cat cuts it really takes a lot of the area out leaving you with a much lighter quilt than expected. I stacked two layers of 5 oz in mine and still was pleased with the weight. Also not having all that shock cord makes a difference. Well done!

Very nice. I like the custom fit. I've been using the jarbidge with my bridge hammock.

That's an impressive hammock and I like the colours too. Could you please tell me what material you ran down the sides of the hammock, I'm not sure of the proper name for it, its the web type material that the hammock is suspended from. TIA, Mark.
