The 7/64 are pretty easy to open. I marked the standing end with a strip around it. If you hold that end and give a tug, it opens pretty easily.

There is another video floating around the Tube that shows the modified soft shackle with a jacket over it. I wonder if that would solve the criss-crossed line issue.
