Hey Colorado...
Has anyone taken a trip to the Rawah Wilderness in the Poudre Canyon? Suggestions on good areas for hammock camping?

Are you thinking of hiking to Blue Lake or Camron Peak?
Well, in regards to hammock camping, I can't really help too much. I would recommend the area as a whole though. It is Beautiful, and if you life in FoCo, it is close. My experience up there is limited to ground camping above treeline though. A quick peak at the maps of the area make it look like there is plenty of trail below treeline, so there should be some good established sites.
I am interested in this too, as getting back to the area and setting up a hammock base camp would be great. Then you could do day hikes out to different alpine lakes
OutandBack,
I was thinking Blue Lake this winter or starting at the West Branch TH for a loop in spring/summer.

MattK,
What areas have you gone to? I have a tarp and bivy set up too so that is always an option. Sometimes I feel like I should scout out potential hammock spots with a ground setup and go back for the hang. I am close to the canyon so feel free to contact me if your heading up this way, always looking to get out with people.
It has been 20 years since I hiked that area. I used to park near that dude horse ranch and hike in 6-7 miles and fish all those little connector streams between the lakes. Best brookie fishing I ever knew.
I was using a fishnet hammock, blue walmart tarp and ensolite pad with SB back then. I never had a problem finding trees anywhere around the lakes.
Just remember its a wilderness area so you have those rules about being so far from a trail or water.
Hey all, I haven't been hammock camping outside of FoCo but would love to join anyone setting up a hang up there.
Interested in a Rawah trip...
I love that area as well. The whole Medicine Bow-Routt has so many wild places to hang hammocks. Not a lot of airplanes flying overhead - one of my favorite things about Rawah.
If you decide to put some dates out, holler - would be into this for sure. A friend and I are also trying to organize a small group bikepacking/hammocking sesh from Red Feather Lakes up to Wyoming and back. Good times!
I'd rather be in a hammock. - Dolly Parton
Will do! I will be up at Chambers Lake in June for a family camping trip and plan to scout out some areas for a possible group hang later in the summer or early fall.
