    10' vs 11' hammock

Hey gang! Looking for some advice here.

Looking to buy a new hammock, and waffling between getting a 10' or an 11' hammock.

I know everyone says longer is better. However, I'm a short guy, only 5'6. I feel like an 11' hammock would be overkill for me.

Any advice? Am I over thinking this?

Even for shorter people the calf ridge pressure that's associated with gathered end hammocks can still happen. Most people find it goes away or is significantly less with 11 foot hammocks. Short lounging hangs usually aren't an issue but if you're going to sleep an entire night in it you may want a longer hammock.

My wife and I are new to hanging. We're 5'3" and 5"4". We have 11'+ hammocks are quite comfortable. To be fair, we've never tried a 10 footer, but we do have a 9' GT ultra which is sooo uncomfortable.

I've tried 9'+ (ENO DN), 10' diy, and 11' diy (pre-whipped length). I'm 5'10" and found each increasingly more comfortable as the length increased. The 10' is my backpacking hammock and I made the 11' for my brother - kind of wish I had an 11' for me at this point. I think it will be more comfortable for you, not overkill, the main downside being ever so slightly heavier + larger tarp required. That may not even be a downside if weight isn't an issue.

I did not like the 11'. It just seems like a sea of fabric all around me. The calf ridge, which is not really a problem for me on a 10', was the exact same on the 11'. The ridgeline also hung a LOT higher on the 11', to the point where I could hardly touch it lying down. And my UQ suspension seemed to short unless I extended it. All those things brought me to selling the 11' and just being satisfied with the 10'.

A perfect "if it's not broken don't fix it" situation for me. But I like trying new things, so I gave it a shot.

Exactly what Mark said. 10 ft is the sweet spot for me.

    I'm 5'7" and sleep in a 10ft x 60 hammock every night.

10' is my go to hammock length. I've got an 11 footer, but still can't quite get comfortable plus my feet keep slipping off the sides. Btw, I'm 5' 10. I just think the smaller size fits me better.

HAHA I know!! Why? I can't figure that one out. It's longer, so why do my feet get so close to the edge even lying at a very low angle?

Here I was thinking of making an extra wide hammock to deal with this. Really your feet fall out of an 11' like mine do, but you are fine in a 10'? I may have to do a quick test in a shorter hammock.
