My First Hang [Congaree National Park]

    Hello HammockForums Members and 'Lurkers'

Well, I'm finally home after taking part in my very first hang, and let me tell you, it was amazing!

My dad and I started our Saturday pretty early, waking up at 5:30, to make sure we had all of our gear packed and ready. We left our house around 6, and started a very long journey to South Carolina.
Nothing really eventful happened to us before we got there, except for blowing out a tire going around eighty on the highway. Boy was that fun... [no.. it wasn't]

    Anyways!
We finally arrived at the park and walked around a bit, looking for the familiar sight of fellow hangers, however, we weren't able to find the camp...
    [At least.... the right camp]
We found a site with three or four hammocks already set up, but no one was around. We decided to go ahead and set up camp so we wouldn't have to do it in the dark, and then maybe go find somewhere to eat.

Now, before I go on with my story, let me tell you all:
South Carolina is like..... A flat, hot death trap with no towns, and no signs of life for MILES.
Hey S. Carolina, how about putting your towns a little closer together?

    Okay Okay.
So we finally get some food in our tummy's and get back to the camp and find our campsite again, empty. So we hang around a bit, waiting for someone to show up. After a while a man walks up and we find out the this isn't the Hanger's Camp, its a boy scout troupe site. Joy.
We were informed that even though we weren't a part of their thing, the guys would be more than happy to have us [*cough*ME*cough*] stay.
haha. Like that was going to happen...

Dad and I mosey around the other side of the camp and guess who's sitting there? ....
Pssshhhh, you guys stink at guessing....

Dameon [with Jessica Trinity and Ayden (correct me if am wrong ), Schneiderlein, and (oh lord I forgot his HF name....) Andy were all sitting around the campfire. Thankfully we're all nice people, and we were welcomed into the camp.

    [Its picture time]

    Welcome to the Park

This is my BB [GREEN] set up Finally getting the hang of setting it up right thanks to dad.

Dad and his BB hammock with his under quilt and all... Fancy.... *grr*

    Our part of the woods

    TREE!!!

I love this picture of Schneiderlein and his daughter

''Its like he Knows!!!'' We stopped at the numbers and Schneiderlein shared his wisdom *cough pamphlet*cough*

Dad was Chillin' at the lake...

okay, So we all had a great time.
Stayed up till all hours of the night talking about everything till I got too Exhausted to sit up straight.

Let me tell you that hammock is amazing.
When I woke up, my feet were cold from being off my pad, and my shoulder hurt like you wouldn't believe, but it was amazing.
My first Hang will Defiantly not be my last.

Thanks to everyone that was there.
I look forward to the next

    how are you pawfoot,
Let me just say that its good to see that you and your dad get along as good as you do. Having 2 daughters of my own I can relate. One is 13 and one is 14. The pictures are great, well taken, awesome that you included pics of the other campers. The fact that you have a Blackbird, dudet like whoa, nice going talking dad into that. I hope you have many more experiences like that with the old man cause the years will fly by kid, enjoy your youth while your young, there will be a day you want it back.

    happy camping to you,

    TY

Next time get some photos by the fire they are great to get framed. The lighting makes for some remarkable pics to frame.

Congrats on your first hang, and for having a Dad that knows how important it is to get his kid interested in the outdoors. And for having a BlackBird.

I was at the stop sign, looked around and ask..."where did I put that cooler?"

I think I left my hatchet too. I need to trim pack weight for two reasons now. One to make it easier to walk and two to keep from losing stuff.
