Newbie Question attaching whoopie slings to gathered hammock

Hi guys,I just took delivery of my first hammock. Hammock Bliss sky bed bug free. I will be using it Kayak Camping throughout the Northern Rivers of New South Wales and South East Queensland, Australia.

Before my hammock even got here I had whoopie slings made and I'm amped to get hanging. My question is, the fixed loop on the whoopie sling, should I attach this straight to the hammock by way of passing the loop through the "sleeve" in either end of the hammock, then pass the whoopie sling through the fixed loop to create a knot? Or should I make a small continuous loop in the end of the hammock with the left over Dyneema Core (Amsteel) that I have and connect to that via a square knot? I love knots and rope work as I grew up sailing yachts.

I've been reading on here for over 2 months before I decided to get my first hammock, thanks for all the information. It's been really helpful.

Make whatever makes sense to you, but the less loops (and ropes) to fiddle (and break) the merrier. Good luck!

You should be able to easily detach your whoopie sling and straps from your hammock. Even though you like knots sometime hardware is better for certain jobs. I use dutch whoopie hooks to attach my suspension to my hammock.

As you love knots maybe you like to use a loop with diamond knot as connection point between hammock and whoopie sling. Simple, hardwear-free and detachable. See here.

    You can do both.

Attaching the whoopee slings directly to the hammock saves weight (albeit just a little).

Connecting it in a detachable way - using a continuous loop and knots, a grappler's hitch, hardware or anything alike - has the advantage of disconnecting your suspension from the hammock after it got wet in heavy rain or after it got dirty by tree sap for example.

I would choose a detachable option with the continuous loop.

You could use a big carabiner and then you have a water break. Or try using a lark's head to your existing loop. The options are endless just remember the goal is to do what makes you comfortable and happy.
