Yesterday afternoon, we had the opportunity to build a hammock using the 1.0oz ROBIC and .5oz Noseeum that we had recently ordered from ripstopbytheroll.com.
Here’s the specs of our test build.
Dream Hammock Darien
Length: 10ft
Width: 60”
Layers: single
Hammock body: 1.0oz ROBIC, Coyote Brown
Netting: .5oz Noseeum, Black
Suspension: continuous loops
Channels: cinched end with zip-ties
Zipper: #3 coil
Stuff Sack: 1.0 HyperD, Blaze Orange
Total finished weight in the stuff sack was 9.1oz or 258g
My weight yesterday morning was 254.0lbs. Yea! I’m down a few pounds!
We got it finished up in time for me to sleep in it last night. I found the fabric very supportive and plenty firm for my weight. I initially noticed some calf ridge, but it was much better after I tinkered with the the setup and got myself into a good comfortable position. That’s about all I remember about last night’s test until I woke up this morning. I found myself in pretty much the exact same position. The fabric hadn’t shown any noticeable stretch overnight and I was still held pretty high up in the hammock with no shoulder squeeze or other issues.
The fabric is a good bit rougher than the HyperD, but not really scratchy. It’s still smoother than the Hex70 fabric and allows you to easily slide around on it to adjust your position.
I think the 1.0oz ROBIC is a winner and we’re very happy to begin offering it. We are going to resume building lighter weight single layer hammock with this fabric because I believe this one will make a durable and strong option for those who would like to keep their gear light, but not compromise durability for weight savings.
Oh and after church today, we made it outside for awhile and shot this little video of the hammock. Enjoy.
