    Figure 9 advice

I just recieved my figure9s today. I plan to use tham to attatch my stock ulba tarp to the tree. I was wondering if it is better to remove them every time. I think I'm suppose to pull a loop through the eye and hook it around the hook part. Just like the directions show to secure it "mid-way on the rope". If there is a better way please let me know. If thet is how you do it, do they stay with the tarp or do I pull them off? By the way, me pulling them off is no guarantee that they still won't get lost.

I attach mine right at the tarp end of the cord and leave them there. I'm careful of the hooks when skinning my tarp, but I really don't think they're sharp enough to damage anything easily.

I just leave mine on. I'm careful when I roll up the tie-out lines. I feel the snakeskins and lines offer a good barrier against any potential tarp damage.
They can easily tangle things up if your not careful. I once had to take both off cause it was getting to be a real tangled mess.

i believe i'm going to tie mine so they permanently attached at the edge of the tarp ridge line.
when i just looped the line through the hole & around the fig 9, i almost lost one when taking the tarp down.

Really? Well, I guess with that tiny little line you use...mine are kinda hard to move around since my tie-out line is larger.

Just being overly cautious probably, but you might run into problems if you tie them in permanently...I've had to move mine up the line several times to accommodate longer hangs.

Same here. I tend to slide mine up and down the line to suit each hang. But, I guess it wouldn't be a problem to attach permanently near the end of the tarp, provided that you left PLENTY of spare cord to suit any attempted hang.

i have enough line to take care of most tarp hangs, but i also have a couple extra 6 or 8 foot lengths on hand if needed.
the small orange spectra cord from speer hammocks is pretty light & compact.
i'll give it a try & let you know if i change my mind.

I am using the alternate method they show on the package where Fig 9 is mounted on the rope. I keep them as close to the tarp as possible but like BB I've had to adjust them for longer hangs.

Great product! I could never find an adjustable knot that worked well with the Air Core I use to attach the tarp to trees.

I just picked up a few more to possibly use on the stake tie outs. Still trying to figure out if they will work better than cams that came with the Air Core.

I leave mine on the line. When I wind the guy line up for storage I wind it around the Figure 9's so they don't fall off and it also protects the tarp and skins from snagging.

Thank you for all the great replies. I think I won't tie it and try to be careful when windin it up. If I lose one it isn't the end of the line, right?
    Thanks once again
