I have 2 snugpak underquilts and I'm heading out in januari for a fishingtrip and it might be that I will stay onw or two nights. I was thinking about using my 2nd UC as a TC, so if temp goes low I will have this config..

    DD Tarp
    HH Camping Hammock

    Snugpak underquilt
Haglöfs sleepingbag (synthetic) extrem temp is -10c
Snugpak underquilt as a topquilt is I get to chilly...

And I often use thick fleece pant and shirt when sleeping in my hammock, resulting in a open sleeping bag to vent out the heat so I guess I wont be cold.

The snugpak UC are great, but it was a pain in the *** to get attach them properly before figuring out how to do it.

I'm very comfortable at 10C with a 0C bag in my Exped Asym with supershelter. Closer to zero I'd want more insulation, maybe a lot more. I've been out during 2-3C weather with just a foam pad inside the hammock (before i got the super shelter) same bag, thermolite bag liner, and wearing lots of clothes including a really heavy wool sweater.

With my HH Exped I used a 15 deg dynthetic bag with a fleece liner inside, and the SS with an old down throw under that in 18 degrees in Northern Wisconsin last Oct and was toasty.

    FlatFishy,

I'm new to hammocks, but experienced in winter camping. Most of the principles are the same, but the applications can be different (underside insulation for example).

My first two nights out in the HH UL Explorer I used the undercover with the OCF underpad. I added a thin mylar "spaceblanket" (as Knotty said) above the OCF pad, and my 2x2 foot 1/8" CCF sitpad under my torso. I was pretty comfortable to 27°F fully clothed with a old (but good) 10° down bag used as a loose comforter.

    Hope this helps.
