warmth in a hennessey?

i have an expedition asym and have the supershelter undercover but not the overcover with a +2c bag for the top what temp range can i realistically get down to?(i'm not a cold sleeper but also not a warm sleeper).

i also have a snugpack underquilt which i'm unsure of the temp rating does anybody know the temp range for these?

shall i double up on them as the temp i'm expecting will be hovering above if not touching 0c?

I've done nights where the temps dipped to upper 30's in a HH with SS and a 20deg bag. This was lower than I expected to be able to go. Others have gone lower and some others have been cold in the 40's, so it's hard to predict.

It's a good idea to do a test hang in the backyard at the temps you're expecting so you can bail out if you get too cold.

Also, make sure you put a space blanket on top of the closed cell foam pad.

I did 38 degrees in my HH the other night, with my DIY Dri Duck skin bottom and top cover, a self-inflating pad and a SB. My sleeping bag was a 30* Browning Kenai and no tarp.

When I had a HH + SS with OCF pad, no OC, with a Frog Sac and a poncho liner for TQs, I was fully clothed and toasty at 20*F. However, I felt I was pushing the envelope.

When I added a vapor barrier and a KAQ to the above rig, I felt I was well insulated and comfy at 16*F.

I've been down just below freezing with the supershelter and my three season sleeping. I been down in the low teens with my supershelter and a cheap coleman 0* bag. Augmented with parkas and such the supershelter has gone to -26F (yep that's minus). The overcover helps to some extent as would a winter tarp w/doors

How did you rig the KAQ with the SS?

I did some testing with my HH + new SS + KAQ yesterday.

Got the SS kit from greenlespaul, removed the bungie cord from around the bottom entry hole, then sewed it closed. No need for the entry/exit hole in the SS. I have a #2 mod by 2Q/ZQ!

I've basically converted my HH Exped into a dbl layer hammock and will keep it this way permanently. The way the SS bottom cover attaches to the HH...it can be easily removed or folded to one end in a matter of seconds if I only want a single layer hammock.

Tried this layering combo:
HH
KAQ
SS bottom cover

Then tried this:
HH
OCF SS pad
KAQ
SS bottom cover

Next tried:
HH
SS bottom cover
KAQ

Last tried:
HH
OCF SS pad
SS bottom cover
KAQ

Any combination works nicely and kept me toasty!

I also tried all combinations, but I noted the following:

- The OCF pad does best when it is right underneath the hammock.
- The KAQ does best when it is the outer layer.

I think the OCF pad fits best where it was designed to be, right underneath the hammock. On the other hand, the KAQ is the most adjustable, when other stuff is inside it. Therefore, I favored the last of Alan's combinations. If there were a lot of wind blown rain, the UC could go on the bottom.

The SS and the KAQ work very well together!

EDIT: I just noticed that Alan did not list the OCF pad in the combination that had the KAQ right under the hammock. He is correct, all of those combinations are good! You don't have to use the OCF pad.

tried this in the woods for about 20 minutes till my cell went off and i had to go to work which seemed fairly warm but that was around 50*f, i'm looking at low 30's
with my snugpak underquilt as i don't have a KAQ(jeez, britain is lacking in down equipment manufacturing companies)
