    AL> Sipsey Wilderness March 12 & 13, 2016

Am leading a group of Nashville Backpacker Meetup hikers (10 2-legged and 2 or 3 4-legged variety) to the Sipsey Wilderness in Alabama this weekend (Saturday March 12 and Sunday March 13, 2016). Tentative plan is hike #200 Borden Creek, #209 Sipsey Fork (aka "River"), and #206 Thompson Creek. About 13.1 miles total.

We'll probably split into two hiking groups, one starting at Borden Creek and one at Thompson Creek on Saturday afternoon, camp wherever we meet in the middle along the Sipsey Fork, swap car keys, and hike on out on Sunday morning, and meet up for late lunch at Western Sirloin Restaurant in Moulton before driving back to Nashville.

One of our group is local down there and has actually hiked parts of the route twice the past week. Plus, I've spoken with local officials and have my eye on the USGS water level gauge given the forecast of possible showers and/or thunder storms.

If anyone wants to join us for some of the hiking, the lunch on Sunday, or whatever, feel free to give a shout. Also, if anyone wants to share advice, suggestions, etc., feel free to post or PM me.

I've heard good things of the Sipsey for years. Now I hope to see for myself!

Then on Monday evening, a representative from Wild South in Moulton is coming up to speak to our Nashville Backpacker group at REI at 7:00. All are welcome to that.

Should be a good hike. Waterfalls should be flowing pretty good. Have a great time and I might possibly be able to hike this weekend.

That would be great if you came out! I'll shoot you my cell number (or have I already?). Let's talk.

I do have one last question, about the distance of the Borden Creek Trail #200. One source tells me it's close to 3 miles. Another source says it's less than 2 miles. Eye-balling it and scaling it with a ruler tells me it's close to 2 miles. Maybe I'm comparing apples and oranges?

Can anyone clear this up for me about what the actual distance is from Borden Creek Trailhead to the ford at the junction with the Sipsey Fork ("River")?

    Thanks in advance.

East side (official trail) is listed as 2.7 miles from Borden TH to Sipsey TH but that probably doesn't include the hill between the bridge and the parking at Borden.

West side is about 2 miles from the bridge at Borden Creek to the Sipsey River junction according to my GPS.

Rain Man, what time are you guys thinking you'll be on the trail on Sat? I'm not sure how long it will take to get there from Nashvegas. It's about a 3 hour trek from Memphis. Maybe we'll cross paths.

How was the trip? Was it overly muddy or "not bad"?
