    CamJam XT for Rudgeline Tension?

    WP_20160310_11_31_44_Pro.jpg

This is the packaging it came with.

Just curious if anyone has tried one of these for tensioning. I replaced one of the carbineers on my hammock with it for tensioning my ridgeline instead of doing a knot on the end. I tried it briefly with a trial setup and it seemed to grip and hold the tension on my line well enough. This weekend I'll probably do a solid night of sleeping with it in place to see how it maintains. I guess my biggest concern would be damage to the cord itself from the gripper teeth.

I've attempted to use the little plastic ones for a tarp ridge line, but they wouldn't hold 1.75mm Zing-It. And to be fair, they said they wouldn't on the package going by the line size. What is your ridge line? Is that 2.2mm?

????? Why are you adjusting the Hammock RL like that? Normally you have a set fixed length for a RL or use an adjustable one like a whoopie to find out what length you find comfortable. But most of us to not adjust over and over again. The idea of a RL is to find the amount of sag to the hammock that is comfortable to you and then never adjust it again. From your comment it sound like you are adjusting it someplace different each time.

Those cams have been used by a few folks with trap Ridgelines and I have heard repeatedly that they slip and do not hold consistent tension for a tarp....carying that over to more tension on a hammock RL I would not count on it to maintain a constant length.

Some slippage problems are due to using too small of a line than the Camjam is designed for - such as using 2mm line in a Camjam XT Large. I'm using the Camjam XT Large with 4mm as my back up hammock suspension line with zero slippage. Ever. Even wet.

The cam should not damage or cut the cord. The ridges in the cam are slightly rounded on purpose so as to not cut rope.

    Camjam XT - 2mm - 5mm line, 280lbs. safe working load

Camjam XT Large - 3mm to 9mm line, 500 lbs. safe working load

I've only used my hammock a couple of times and still figuring out where I like it at. I just learned of the 83% rule and will give that a try next time I set it up.

I used the plastic ones and liked them on my tarp Ridgeline but like others have said the correct size line is very important. I used them on 1.75mm lash-it and found the line was too small. Easy to use and adjust with the correct size line. If my CRL was 2.2mm lash-it would have worked well on the CRL

I tryed one of the aluminum ones for a while but any time my amsteel slipped it got tore up. When I looked at the teeth on the cam it had rope fibers stuck in them... 550 worked well with them though.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

Yup, they worked fine for me this past week end while supporting my HH with no slippage. I think they are awesome. lbTestTime.jpg
