Currently I'm not hiking long distances but In the future that will change though. I'm planning on section hiking the Appalachian trail as well. So I'm really trying to cut down my weight. I have everything I need except a bug net, so at this point I'm upgrading what I have. When I go out my pack usually consists of my Msr pocket rocket, toaks 550 cook pot, eno profly rain tarp, eno Doublenest hammock, suspension, incubator underquilt, sawyer water bottle with filter, a suisse sports 30 degree sleeping bag, and a small stuff sack full of the essentials. Of course food as well. My backpack is an outdoor products arrowhead pack. There's a few things I have that I would like to replace now but my rain tarp is definitely #1 on the list. Also I Personally don't have a problem with the sunlight so I don't think that would be a problem for me.

your sleeping bag, backpack, and hammock are pretty heavy as well...you could shave significant ounces/pounds by tackling those guys as well

I'm definitely replacing my sleeping bag and hammock but my backpack only weighs two pounds. I've looked into ULA backpacks but some of them weigh more than my arrowhead and cost two hundred dollars or more.

Amen to that. Let me also say that within the last year the choices of lightweight woven fabrics for tarps has seen some significant gains. Not long ago the lightest weight woven fabric was 1.1oz silnylon: lotsa stretch, and at 1.1oz/yd2 it wasn't that light, especially after a wet night. But now you have some great options in the Membrane fabrics that I would suggest as a place to start on lightening your load.

Take a look at this kit in Membrane Silpoly: http://ripstopbytheroll.com/products/hex-tarp-kit

My 12 footer all rigged out with guylines and snakes skins comes in at 13 oz. Sorry never weighed it without them.

The hex tarp is a little over 5oz. Crazy! That's nearly 1/3 the weight of my current tarp and it's the same size! I have a hard time spending that much, but it would be a quick 10oz reduction. Maybe one of these days. I'm running out of ways to cut weight.

I'm not sure I'd use a $30 WallyWorld backpack to carry my UL gear. From the reviews it doesn't sound very durable. A 0* Incubator is the furthest thing from UL, and bulky. I'd imagine you might have issues getting a sleeping bag, bugnet, hammock and tarp (cuben fiber is bulkier than silnylon and silpoly) to fit in that pack without leaving yourself very little room.

It seems a bit silly to have a CF tarp when the weight of your other components are so high. I didn't buy a CF tarp until I had a decent pack, HG 20* quilts, and a hammock/bugnet that weighs nowhere near ENO territory. I now have HG 40*, 20* and 0* quilts so I only take the insulation I need. I use my HG 20* quilts 80% of the time, and the 40* and 0* quilts are luxuries, not essentials.
