Hanging with my two little guys

I have two sons, ages 3 and 5, and I wanted to try hanging with both of them. I've hung with the older one before, by just making him a smaller hammock and hanging his from my own ridgeline. I wanted to see if I could do something similar, with the goal of being able to use tarp and one fronkey-style bugnet.

So this was done with one set of tree straps, 4 whoopie slings and a spreader bar with Dutch's double hammock whoopie hooks. The foot end of my hammock is attached via sling to one tree strap while the foot ends of theirs loop around my continuous loop. Then all three of our head ends are attached via sling above a single toggle in the other tree strap. Insert spreader, and there ya go. Hoping to try this out this summer!

Hanging with my two little guys

I immediately heard the Top Gun song play through my head.

    "Highwayyy toooo the Danger Zone!"

In reality though that seems like a reliable set up. But with two little monkeys in the hammocks I'm not so sure ..... Better you than me.

I would however like to get a smaller hammock for my 3 year old so he's not swallowed up by the sides of whatever hammock I'm in that day.

I never had a concern with doing the single kid above me - if he fell out at night, he'd fall right in with me. But it is definitely more of a concern with this setup - something I'm looking to improve on. Maybe a shorter spreader bar or some sort of safety net, but for sure some practice and coaching!

I mostly just wanted to show off the pic anyways, so thanks!

    I think that is awesome!
I'm constantly looking to improve on my son's and my setup.
When my daughter is old enough to hang, I'll definitely have to refer back to this thread for ideas.
    Thanks for sharing!

Ps- here's a pic of my latest plan. I call it "bunk hammocking", got the idea from Derek Hansen.
Going to try it out on the trail next month.

Nice work. They'll be ready for scouts when they get old enough. This crew was covered by one tarp.
