    Converted another one!

This weekend my Brother, 'Possum, officially became a hanger. We have started camping and hiking together quite a bit in the last 18 months or so and he has been intrigued by my hammock set ups but never would try one. My Brother, you understand, is a planner. He saves his money then asks me one day, "Where can I buy a Hammock"? So I explained the difference between the Hennessey, Warbonnet, ENO etc and then we head off to our local REI. He buys the ENO Single, borrows a tarp until I can get one made for him, I made some huggers and Whoopie Slings for it. We did a practice hang here at my house and he was off. About 1000 hrs I get a call, "This is the coolest thing ever, I can't believe I waited this long to try it"! He hung out in his backyard (a pasture really) last night, and loved it.

He really is a neophyte, I loaned him a real backpack several months ago' he was basically using a day pack as a pack; no frame/sheet, no belt, just a big gnarly bag with shoulder straps.

So he has become a hanger and the owner of a new Model 12 Peregrine all in one week!

Now he wants a woodstove and a tarp! Which I will be happy to build, he's my little brother, watterya gonna do?

I wish I could get my little brother out into the piny woods. I've offered a few times, but he doesn't want to go because he won't be able to play his xbox 360. *sigh*, still looking for a regular camping buddy.

That is so cool. You've motivated me to get my sister out this spring. She went backpacking with me years ago when I was still a tenter. She seemed to like it but wasn't motivated to go on her own. I'll have to try again with hammocks!

    Great post.

Funny how that happens isn't it? We were talking around the campfire the other night about the very different paths we both traveled to get where we are. Very different roads and experiences to arrive at, essentially, the same place; for now. Interesting to wonder where we will go from here, what journeys the future may hold. I hope we can take them together.

On the X-Box, that's why we don't have a gaming system in our house! Gage and I would be on that thing all the time! I got rid of the X-Box just for that reason. A campfire is the original Social Networking Site!

    Sounds familiar

My brother who is 3 yrs younger then i has always loved the outdoors and for some strange reason has always looked up to me,whatever i get into he is right there.
One major difference between us is i have to have all the newest and greatest stuff whereas he is extremely hardcore "been a roofer for 25yrs" and still sleeps on the ground without tent or pad, drinks straight out of the streams and hikes in work boots.

Well to my surprise his wife calls and said she is relying on me for all his Christmas gifts and has given me a liberal budget.
Off to REI friday for a down bag and hammock and other newest and greatest stuff.

Great post.......can't beat hanging with your brother.

Well, that's got to be exciting!!! Bet it'll be exciting for him too!!! Makes perfect sense to me that if you're going to give a gift, to be sure it's something they will like & use!
