ZingIt mini Whoopie Sling for magnifier neck loop

Spent a few hours 'fid'dling and turned out a quite serviceable mini Whoopie Sling for my botanist's magnifier.
I traded a jar of homemade marmalade for a couple of used guitar strings — unwrapped G-strings perhaps? … I also used Leatherman pliers to help pull the fishings.
I made a Brummell to lark's head onto the magnifier. A Whoopie to adjust the length. A stopper 'knot' as an obstruction to keep the Whoopie from tightening and choking me. I also added another buried loop on the open end to attach other possibilities, i.e., whistle.
I stitched the two Brummels to ensure they don't slack and open. I did not lock either one properly, since they don't have to carry any weight. The stitching is just to keep them closed.
I might have to place another order from Dutch … This is fun!

Nice job,and learning to splice is fun... but I would be concerned that this may still be a choking hazard, anything you put around your neck should have a "break away" feature to open in the event it tangles/hooks on something so it positively will not choke you.Not trying to be negative, but better safe than sorry!

I use small whoopies made from zing it on my exterior pole mod for easy adjustments, works great!

Point taken. This was a proof-of-concept and of technique. (I've used non-breakaway lanyards for years, always aware of that issue but no problems so far … Poor excuse, eh? …)

Did these other lanyards use a cord that could potentially support your entire body weight? Just something to think about. I'd consider a magnetic closure because magnets are awesome.

In the past, I've used paracord-type material. So, yes, strong.
I just made another one using Amsteel (with properly locked Brummels — as I learn well through fid'dling …)
Magnetic breakaways … interesting. I think I've got one somewhere. Must try it!
