    Thanksgiving Hammock Hotel

I spent a wonderful weekend with my family in Southern Utah celebrating Thanksgiving. I brought up a few of my hammocks for show-and-tell and ended up creating a hammock hotel in the backyard. My relatives took advantage of the setup for the after-dinner "Thanksgiving Coma" and I was pleased to see them sleeping comfortably.

The overnight temperatures dipped down to 28°F (-2°C) one night, and 30°F (-1°C) the other that I spent in my hammock. Just for fun, I went to the local ACE Hardware and picked up some wide Reflectix bubble insulation to test as an insulative barrier. I cut it and shaped it so it would fit well in the hammock and combined that with a torso-sized CCF for my shoulder and hips. I used my 35°F sleeping bag as a pull-up bag over my hammock and used a fleece throw inside to keep me warm. I was nice and toasty.

My sons slept out with me. I put two very lightweight sleeping bags as pull-up bags over their hammocks with a small CCF underneath. Both slept soundly through the night (I am so grateful!).

On display for the weekend were (from left to right) Grand Trunk Nano 7, Hennessy Explorer Asym (empty), Grand Trunk Ultralight, DIY, Hennessy Explorer Asym #2.

I bet you've started a Thanksgiving tradition in your family... everyone will want you to bring hammocks next year!

Those have got to be some of the best pics I've seen on the forum. There's just something special about the whole situation.

My Dad will love to hear that! He's been having fun building it from scratch over the past few years as the grandkids grow up. It sure provided many attach points for the hammocks!

I was surprised at how long my aunts slept in the hammocks. The one in the middle didn't have a pad underneath her and gave up after a few hours, but the others enjoyed a long rest.

Thanks -- I think the best for me was having my two young sons sleeping next to me in their own hammocks. It was great to spend time together.
