Hi everyone. I am a fairly new member and have learned a lot while I have been here. I have been interested in hanging for several years, when I first heard of the Hennessy. I like to fly fish, kayak and hike and take several trips a year with friends and usually take my tent, but was looking for a simpler setup that could also be packed in my kayak for overnight floats or the occasional back packing trip.
Well, I should be getting my first hammock for Christmas (WBBB) and I have already gotten the DIY bug. I purchased 12.4 oz. of down in the group buy and I am interested in making an UQ.
I am thinking of a 3/4 length, but didn't know how warm to go. Should I use all 12.4 oz. of down and make a nice winter UQ or save some of the down for when I decide to do a top quilt and ditch my mummy bag.
I live in northern Alabama, but I do most of my trips in late fall - early spring, including the winter months.
For a place that rarely gets snow, I have camped on multiple occasions with light snow.
The question ...
Can your UQ be too warm, or could a winter UQ be used in other times of the year without too many issues? I realize that weight would be a tradeoff, but that is not my current concern.
Thanks in advance.
Scott
