Anywhere you CAN'T hammock camp?

It seems like a lot of people on here do backpack camping, but what about car camping at camp grounds? We have done a couple trips to campgrounds with our tent as a way to save costs on trips (not to mention I find hotels absolutely disgusting, no matter how nice), but not sure how feasible hammock camping would be in those instances. Or if they even allow it? I am curious what others have experienced, if you have ever had any issues with a campground and your hammock? Especially given there are six of us. I guess we can always downsize the tent for just the kiddos and DH and I can head to the trees? Just thinking through logistics before full investing in this adventure.

There are some state parks that don't allow hammocks or other objects to be suspended from trees. Here's a link: 50 States Project

Ran into some resistance to straight out no way at a few of the larger public car camp sites. Found a few small private campgrounds that had no issues hanging. Best to call in advance and plead your case. Problem always seems to be a blanket rule that you cannot attach anything to a tree ... Which is understandable based on the less informed screwing eye hooks into trees or breaking branches out of the trees by hanging a tree swing ect.... The give an inch and someone takes a mile deal is not our friend when it comes to hanging in public campgrounds.

Every Army Corps of Engineers campground I've been to is strict about nothing being attached to a tree. I even looped my dogs leash around a low branch so I could tie my shoe, and a park ranger saw me and asked me (kindly) not to do that.

Some places are hammock friendly, some States are VERY hammock friendly (Vermont), some States want othing attached to trees wver (eg Washington, Indiana), some campgrounds won't let you setup a hammock stand. In general they mean a lounging hammock stand, not a camping hammock stand. Some parks are working on identifying hammock friendly campsites.

Bottom line, as was mentioned, know before you go.

North Carolina State Parks that allow camping allow hammock camping but some of them do not have trees suitable for hanging your hammocks. Hammock stands are a good way to go in those cases.

I've hung several times at Fort Worden and Birch Bay State Parks in Washington and no one batted an eye. In Grand Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks ( car campgrounds) you can hang during the day but not at night. At Zion, I was asked to put cardboard between 1" strap and the tree- you can hang at night there.
