    Strap Damage

I am curious if anyone else has experienced excessive wear on the straps from the WBB tri-ring/webbing setup?

I was looking at my straps last night and saw that there were multiple places on my straps where it appears to be damaged from the tri-rings. It looks like it was compressed too hard and is now permanently creased. In one spot it looks like the friction wore a strip smooth.

I always make sure the straps are flat against the tri-rings and that I have a tight half-hitch behind the rings to keep it from slipping. I weigh about 205# and don't do much moving once inside the hammock. So I am a little surprised that I may need to replace my straps after using this setup less than 20 times.

On my other hammock setups I use the Stapworks Seatbelt webbing and the SMC descending rings and have never had an issue with damage to the strap.

I thought I remember seeing a thread about a related issue, but I don't seem to be able to find it with the search function.

I have thought about moving to a whoopie, but I am still not entirely sold on them.

    Thanks,

    DG

can you take some pics DG?
I have used my tri-rings/webbing for over a year (60x+) and show no real wear and tear...
    I'm curious to see yours

Looks like the straps are sliding a bit after you get in the hammock. Tieing the half hitch as close and tight as possible to the buckles as you can should help.

yeah, it looks like they are slipping just a little under weight. maybe you already are, but try pulling the half hitch downward into the rings when you tighten the backup knot.

Wondering to what degree the integrity of the webbing is compromised with this sort of damage, which seems pretty common, or at least, not unusual.
