Can an UQ be to warm?

Is their such a thing as to warm of an UQ? (Ie. using a winter UQ in summer) If I was only to buy one UQ for the time being and I got a winter UQ and used it in the summer, NOT considering the weight disadvantage of it being heavier, are their any other disadvantages? I figure you can can just vent it but am I missing something? I plan on getting a 2/3uq and using a CCF to go under my legs,
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Worst case scenario, an unexpected heat wave. In the middle of the night just unhook 1/2 of the quilt. I can't speak for other models of UQ, but the JrB Quilts have 4 attachment points (2 at head and 2 at feet). If I was really blistering hot I would open up the head and foot vents or if that was already done, just unhook the head end thus leaving my torso uncovered.

Remember the general rule of thumb though, it usually gets cooler after the sun sets. If you are warm with a TQ & UQ, remove the top. If you are still hot, vent or unhook the bottom. If you are still hot, call a doctor. =)

Another way of thinking about it, the difference in a hammock between 70F & 80F is UQ or no UQ.
75F and up, should be fine with little or no UQ.
74F and lower, you will want something.

If you have too much on the bottom, remove layers from your top. It's quick, easy, and usually done in your sleep.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

My thought would be "Yes", it can be.
The under quilt (UQ) is more forgiving IMO than the top quilt (TQ) when it comes to having too much, and at the same time, more important for staying warm in the winter.
When you use a mattress on a bed at home, you use the same one year round & adjust the top covers. An UQ works kinda that way, but it also tends to wrap up around your sides, enclosing you more.
Probably less so with the "Bridge Hammocks".

There have been a few warmer times when I would find a winter UQ trapping too much heat & over heating me from below. I could vent the TQ, but found it difficult to find the right balance. Too much uncovering & I felt too much of the cool night air on top.

Trying to loosen the UQ, allowing a little air space would help, but when it gets into the milder (but still to cool for comfort) temps, I'd rather have another option.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I like having 2 under quilts, summer & winter. I made my summer really lite and therefore needed to switch to my winter sooner than I thought. My winter one was a bit much when I first started using it, temps were not cool enough for it. I made both of quilts and can change them if I see a need to. I found I needed to sew on some attachment straps on the sides of my winter quilt so I can adjust it for different temps. When I get to hot, I tie the quilt "looser" to my hammock. With my summer quilt, if I got to hot, I'd untie one side and slip the whole quilt over to the side (sort of looks like a weird hammock hanging next to my hammock) then just would pull it back under me as the temps dropped at night. Using the winter one, I never slip it to the side, it's just to cold. But being able to adjust it tighter or looser to the bottom of my hammock has helped a lot. It's still a work in progress though. My winter quilt is way to much insulation for me to even try to use it for the hot humid summers where I live.
When you do get an under quilt, try to test it out in as many different temps as you can.

Has anyone tried a two-piece UQ? Two summer weight quilts that can be doubled up with velcro or mitten hooks for cold weather use?

    JRB has convertible models.

I made the Nested MacKAQ, which works very well. Sold it to Rilmoigan. I'm going to make another using Insultex...

Two summer weight quilts... a good idea. I'm going to make single layer Insultex inserts, and try them two or three at a time.

JRB's original 4-Season Set was the Nest+NS on bottom and ORM as a top quilt. As long as the suspension works and you're not compressing the loft, putting two underquilts on a hammock is a workable idea. Small weight penalty for a lot of versatility, especially if you don't want to spend a lot of money of separate summer and winter quilts.
