Kevlar and Spectra kite lines can both be spliced with a Cortland No-Knot tool, which is a small latch needle (i.e. - looks like a tiny loop puller of the sort used for splicing amsteel). I used to use kevlar lines for stunt kites, then (because they don't stretch much) for measuring soccer fields, and finally I used them for my first adjustable hammocks, with 20 small whoopie slings on each end of the hammock. Kite fliers and fishermen sleeve kevlar line ends in dacron hollow braid line so they can tie knots in them. Kevlar knotted alone will cut itself. Spectra might, too. You can probably also splice Kevlar with a piece of small gauge wire bent double instead of a latch needle. Don't use Hammock Anchors with Kevlar. The line crosses itself and puts extreme pressure on a tiny area, just like a knot.

I've been testing more and had a failure. The line is too narrow in diameter and slipped back into the hole of the hammock anchor. Snapped it. Will work on a heavier line to see how it works with the hole size.

Only catch is that you can't splice the hollow line. I tried. So you have to use proper fishing knots to keep the strength of the line. One end I looped it onto a Dutch clip, the other onto a loop alien to connect to the Kevlar webbing. I didn't want Kevlar on Kevlar since the line could technically cut if lots of friction occurred. It worked great.

One thing to note is that if you aren't careful in your line placement you do not want Kevlar line contacting your tarp.

    What rain fly is this?
