    Tent vs Hammock Camping

I look at all my tent camping stash, and now I am collecting a ton of hammock stash. I really feel, like my pack will not be any lighter. I understand, not having to worry about finding a flat spot to put a tent, but finding trees can also be an issue.

I just am curious, what tips the appeal to the hammock side?

Yep. Comfort is the main reason.
I keep learning and will never know enough.

It is all about being more comfortable. My best tent gear weighs the same as my best hammock gear and they both take up about the same amount of space in my pack.

From a backwards perspective, I sleep so well in a hammock, I've permanently replaced my bed with it. How's that translate to camping? Well, it's basically the beauty of camping with the comfort of sleeping in my home, wherever I am.

when i go camping, i don't sacrifice my sleeping accomodations one single once; i bring my entire bedroom set with me when i go camping. my pack hangs on my stand as if it were dangling beneath my tarp, my extra gears and doggie bed are under me, same as out there. just, my food is in my bearbag, not my kitchen lol. i don't creak when i get out of my hammock, and and waking up soggy from there being 4" of water surrounding your entire tent site and it lapping up the sides above the tub style floor of the tent and my phone was ruined and my shoes were wet and screw sleeping on the ground. my boots hang, my phone hangs, my light hangs, my dog hangs if its gunna rain, my gear all hangs, nothing wakes up wet. because waking up wet is for the fish. because air mattresses suck and tempur-pedic ones are super heavy. because when i get drunk at camp and fall over my hammock suspension we all get a good laugh; when i get drunk and fall over in my tent i brake it, lmao man that was lame. because when i don't think its gunna rain but i string my tarp up anyway and then flip it over its ridgeline it still holds the heat from the fire and then when it does rain i just gotta stake it out; in a tent when i don't put the lame little fly over the top so i can see the stars and it rains i can NEVER get it up before stuff gets too wet to sleep with. because i am not ready to dig myself out of the snow from the ground, whereas if im dangling and it snowed too much i can get my real pants and boots back on without touching the ground. because when i tuck my pillow under my neck, i wake up having forgotten i fell asleep.

When I sleep in a tent, I awake almost every hour, looking around, readjusting and trying to get comfortable. I can get "8" hours of completely INterrupted sleep, beg for sunrise so I can get out of the tent and be grumpy and sore.

When I sleep in a hammock, I awake just to pee. I can get 4-5 hours of great, deep sleep and feel more refreshed, regenerated and ready for the day than any amount of time in a tent. 8 hours in a hammock...forgetaboutit, I feel like Superman.

Ha, Tripping on tent guy lines have ripped the connection points too many times for me. And the rain collects in my tent as well. As far as my gear off the ground in a hammock set up, I like to use my gear hammock.

Wow, I might need to try a long term indoor experiment like that, cause I wonder about that.

The modularity of hammocks is really great. In Early Spring or Fall (MN) I can skip the bugnet which is great. Or a quick night out with no weather concerns and skip the tarp. Or going for a quick hang at the park with my insulated hammock, I'll just grab that and a quilt. It's really a kind of lifestyle that also works for camping
