Hanging my hammock with no trees @ Wintercount

I tried to get creative at Wintercount with my hammock. There weren't any suitable trees to tie to, just some thin mesquite and some iron wood that was crawling with bark scorpions. So I used a single post I found in the firewood pile and a deadman anchor for one end and the roll bar of my jeep for the other. It worked well as long as my friend slept in the jeep. However, without his body weight dampening the jeep's suspension I couldn't get the rigging tight enough to remain stable on one post. I was surprised how resistant that single post was to tipping so long as the rigging was tight. If I could have found two posts and lashed them together in an X I wouldn't have had a problem tying the other end to the vehicle even if a little slack.

Very cool. These are the kind of information sharing experiences that make this board so rich. Now, if ever faced with a similar situation, I'll have an idea!

Awesome! Much simpler solution than I've seen for similar scenarios.

Do you think your Jeep might have been more stable if it were parked front-to-back instead of sideways?

    Or maybe 45* angle?

I was afraid if I parked at an angle the straps would try to slide along the roll bar possibly damaging the padding or door frame.
