Looks like a fun morning MrPrez ... must be especially nice with those temps and no (I'm guessing) skeeters to deal with!

We were fine and dandy while in the boats but as soon as we got back to shore and started to load up, we all got very cold. We had a good time though!

No skeeters. No gators. We did see a turtle and some Blue Herons. Those things are huge.

Hmmm, what about something like this: Bod-i-bag
Might be easier to make than a set of pajamas.

Insultex doesn't breath, so it might not be the best choice for something that covers you completely. That's why I thought a half-bag would be a great idea, especially, as MrPrez said, for folks with a short UQ.

Insultex is thin, lightweight insulation. See the manufacturers website.

There's a thread about it here.

I use a foot and leg bag on the Northern hike on the SHT in October. Feet and legs were warm. I was using a half UQ with a blue Walmart pad for the feet and legs.

On Friday night and Saturday, with temps between 33*F and 21*F, I wore the following:

    light weight flannel shirt
    Insultex vest and sleeves
    Nylon covering shirt
    another Nylon covering shirt

That's all! I was toasty the entyre time! I don't think I needed the inside nylon covering shirt; both have good elastic on wrists and waist. When we hiked out on Saturday, I removed one nylon covering shirt and the Insultex vest and sleeves, because I thought I would be too hot with temps above freezing. Trouble was, on the hike out I did not have enough on.

I'm going to make a better Insultex vest and sleeves, as well as a liner for a wind jacket. That should make for a couple of lightweight garments that will suffice for pretty cold weather.

    Mac,
thanks so much for the piece you gave me yesterday. I placed that sheet of insultex proably folded in half twice between my Hangnout's daughters diy 2/3 uq and then got in my hammock. It was the turkey gap hike and you all have seen the temps. Im sure it started mid 30s or so and I had 3 layers of clotheson in my clark. I had to take off all the layers except the bottom layer of clothes....and my hudson river quilt got pushed down to my feet....and I used just my 55 degree rei bag with one shirt on in that temp. To be fair I added a second shirt and used the hudson river when it got below freezing but at first it was like an oven. I wonder if there is a good way to insulate your feet and legs with it when you have a partial uq? Maybe attach it to the bottom of the wal mart ccf pad? or better...maybe under a pieceof fleece blanket?

That's worth exploring. I've thought about it, and decided a leg-and-foot bag, like MrPrez suggested, might have a tendency to slip down during the night. Perhaps if it were tacked to the inside of the footbox of a Top Quilt...?
