Rose feather down Amazon China down

    http://www.amazon.com/Feather--Filli...oose+down+bulk

I wanted to try out this down which another user suggested. It took 14 days to get here and was $5 per ounce. It also comes as 7 ounce vs a pound. I will hopefully open it up this weekend to use. I'll have some comparison to down linens 800fp at that time. In the mean while here is how it come, all sewn up in its own pillow.

I'm really curious - I looked at it, noticed a discussion on BPL that indicated that the FP was probably over-rated, but I'm not sure how they figured that out. You'd need a pretty accurate scale. In any case, if you have a good experience with it I'll probably make a summer TQ with it.

What I took from Bpl was the assumption it was low because of price and being from China. I can't test it but I'll see how it appears.

Not only is it cheap and all, but really, Chinese down is often "unethically sourced". They often pluck live critters and stitch them up when they're done when they rip them open. I am not some PETA guy trying to preach, I promise. But for Petes sake at least buy down from dead birds that are going to be eaten.

While this is the perception, there is also a lot of ethically sourced down gathers from nests and entering the food chain in china, the problem is there is no regulation so there is no way to tell.

Live plucking also happens in other countries, unless it has the approvals with it there is no way to tell. Even with the approvals this in practice does not gurantee is has not been live plucked but does gurantee a higher price.
It needs regulation, tracing to the source. If cost is a motivator then it will always be abused as a mechanism.

I know this post is old but I wanted to add that I have recently contacted rosefeather to ask how they get their down. They get it from Slaughter factories and do not live pluck. This down is a good price and good quality, the fill power is as advertised.

By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...
