What would be the significant differences between Hexon and Ripstop Nylon? (In simple terms, please... still learning the lingo ).

Nothing wrong with buying a hammock for looks. I know I care about how my gear looks, what color and all. I think it's a cool idea to have camo one side and bright color the other, would look pretty nice.
You should be able to reverse a double layer hammock just fine.
my whole girl friends set up is hot pink Robin egg blue and lime green. in fact it's almost time for me to put ol' pgibson back to work on a top quilt. hot pink outside lime green inside. Haha at least I won't have to worry about finding her gear. order will be in later tonight bud!
Sounds good. We just did up this Pink and Blue New River yesterday.

You can find photos of the different weaves at these URLs. Ripstop tends to be sqaure and the Hexon includes a diamond pattern of stronger threads to hinder a rip (thus ripstop).

The Hexon, because of the ripstop pattern (diamond rather than square like the ripstop of yesteryear), can hold a heavier weight. So if you are on the edge of some weight division, you might get by with a single layer Hexon rather than a double layer traditional ripstop.
I've gone back and forth - dark colors or camo vs something "findable". Off the forum I bought an orange DIY but it mostly lives the the hammock box. I'd use it for a gear hammock but it is not waterproof. Sometimes my concern "imagination" outruns my experience. Having something along that is highly visible might be desirable, but I like everything about my hammock to be oriented to comfort and serenity; not the color of a flashing "Find Me" beacon.
Hexon actually has a double ripstop pattern: diamond over squares. Robic XL has a similar pattern.Originally Posted by [email protected]
Adding an inner layer of 1.1 oz ripstop nylon adds a little less than 7 oz to the carry weight of a standard-width 11-foot hammock; If you're adding a double layer for looks, performance (i.e., backpacking weight) is already secondary, the weight penalty isn't all that bad (since there are lots of places in your overall hammock gear kit to shave a little weight), and you do get the added benefits of versatility (with pads), durability, and increased load capacity as a bonus to having a hammock that looks the way you want it to look.
