Spiders occupant weight limit is 250 pounds. I'm sure this limit is no problem for hutzelbein but as for me, I am Great Big.
Dutch Buckles can be used in a similar fashion and have no listed occupant weight limit but are heavier and less convenient to adjust.
I didn't realize that there was a weight limit on the Spiders. Actually, I would be surprised if they wouldn't carry quite a bit more than advertised, but I can understand people not wanting to test their limits. However, you could still use Multibuckles. They are beefier and can be used in the same way.

If I were to throw out a guess, the weight limit on Spiders is probably more so due to slippage, than break strength.

True. I'd still give it a try. Do whoopies slip at a certain weight?

I don't have spiders (as I'm Great Big) but I would guess that with sufficient tension in the whoopee or CL could pull the strap through the jaws reducing the friction between strap passing through the spider. I'm guessing.

So long as the bury is long enough and milked properly after adjustment, they shouldn't. I'm assuming the spider would be more likely to slip on the webbing if overloaded, thus why beefier options came to market for us gravitationally endowed folk.

At the OP: IIRC, Randy at Dream Hammocks is your size so his hammocks would work for you.

I liked my cinch buckles. Then I got spiders and like them more. I'm 240 so the weight limit isn't a problem for me. I find the cinch buckle setup simpler but the whoop i.e. Sling setup will be lighter. Also, by using Dutch clips on my straps around the tree I never take my straps off of the hammock and can't leave them by accident. I lost a nice pair of tree straps three years ago when I left them on the tree and forgot them! Somebody figured a trail angel had gifted them I suppose. :-)

Wow guys, thanks for all the great responses. I am going to start out hanging in my backyard and go from there. Thank you for all the suggestions and advice. I really appreciate the concise side by side analysis from Pyrogen and all the thoughts on the various suspension systems. I think I will go with a double layer hexon w 1.6 and cinch straps to start. Since money is limited I will be going with a pad so the double layer will help there. Thanks again everyone for the help and advice.

When picking a Dutch make sure you bend at the knees. He has a ton of titanium in his pockets and you don't want to throw your back out.
