So - folks here have sometimes commented on hammocks made of thin material which, with a heavier load, tend to stretch.
I picked up some lightweight completely uncoated camo from Rockywoods and made a single layer hammock.
At 9.5 feet long, whipped with some paracord, it weighs a mere 7 ounces. My single line whoopie suspension (including the gear loft - the black thing at the far end) adds 4.5 ounces. Tree huggers another 8.5 ounces. My tree huggers are 1" straps from strapsworks and they could certainly be shorter. But I haven't gotten up the nerve to shorten them. What if I find a Really Big Tree!?
I figured if any hammock I tried was going to stretch, it'd be this one.
It did. It was the weirdest feeling. Kind of how I'd imagine taffy feels when being pulled. However, it did not dump me on the ground.
Anyway, now I know what it feels like when the fabric stretches a little.
If I decide to go with a camo hammock then I'll add a second layer to this hammock. I'd feel much more secure.
Oh, I was digging around in old threads and found Rapt's asymmetrical whipping idea from way back in 2007! So I tried it out. I kind of liked it but would have liked warmer weather to play with the sag some.
