    First Weekend of Projects Finished

Thanks to my 3 day weekend I was able to finish a hammock, tarp, and top quilt. They each took quite a bit longer than expected but I am pleased with the results. My advice to those thinking about getting into DIY is just go for it. You are going to make mistakes and that is alright, they can be fixed, it is part of learning and the next time it will be better. The most nerve-racking part is definitely cutting out your pieces, put again a small mistake can be easily fixed. You can't tell by looking at my finished tarp, but the two halves were somehow different lengths.

Nicely done and well put! I have had a screw up on every piece of equipment I've made ( 5 hammocks and 5 tarps and a bunch of stuff sacks ) and in the finished product you can't tell unless you seriously examine it. All flaws included it's all still thoroughly functional.

Nice job. Looks like you had a busy weekend. Wish i could find 3 days to make gear. I missed a couple hours of sleep today to make a zippered sack for my backpack waistbelt.

Hard to tell in your photo, did you use snaps to close up the footbox on the topquilt?

Yes I did, there is a separate post discussing the snaps themselves.

Yep. That's enough to keep a person busy for 3 days! Well done.

On my way back from Philmont, and I must say the quilt was amazing. Only got cold in trail bound tent city on the cots, due to the quilt hanging off the sides. I also got to use my hammock and bug net in palo duro canyon last night and it was incredible.
