    WTB: sewing machine Help selecting

Ok....I've gone over the edge, I'm looking on Ebay where a long time seller
of rebuilt sewing machines offers a number of brands. I need some help
with brands & models as I've no idea which is better or worse.....

OMEGA 7040, 3840 <- looks like it will be one of these

SINGER <--industrial and prices went a little high, trying to stay below 200.

TOYOTA<-- priced too high as well, you can sew a saddle with these industrial jobbies

if you are interested in MYOG/DIY for lightweight packing; an industrial machine is probaly too much- pack, quilts, tarps, hammocks are all do-able on a standard home machine- as long as you have the metal gears, not the plastic ones; and you aren't trying to sew thru your aluminim stays!...
check your local sewing machine/quilters shop for used older machines- no shipping, no waiting and they have probably been cleaned and oiled as part of the servicing. all you really need is straight and maybe a zigzag stitch..don't let them sell you the embroidery stitches!
    good luck, KM

    Thanks KerMegan
I ended up getting one on e/bay fair price, no frills, basic stitches, metal gears,
your advice to the letter. I just didn’t want to drive around town looking when
I could do it from the couch watching TV......what have we become ?
